How to visit a student room during corona times

Maybe you’re already looking online for a student room for the next academic year? We can imagine you would like to see the room before you decide.

Unfortunately, the Corona measures make this impossible at the moment.

As of May 11th, real estate agents are allowed to return to work. This means that they may also organize site visits, provided that the necessary safety measures are respected:

• The resident or real estate agent leaves interior doors open, so that visitors don’t have to touch door handles;
• The site visit is limited to a maximum of 2 persons and  the real estate agent;
• Wearing a mouth mask is mandatory;
• Persons from different families are not unnecessarily present in the same room;
• The discussion of certain findings or the answering of questions takes place outdoors;
• The real estate agent communicates these additional precautions in advance to the parties involved. He  provides disinfectant hand gel;
• Before planning a site visit, the real estate agent will provide you with as much information and photos of the property as possible. More information can be provided by telephone, so that the site visit can be kept as short as possible.
• The real estate agent must allow enough time between two appointments so that interested tenants do not intersect.
• The rooms must be ventilated between two appointments. In addition, the planning must be reasonable for the resident(s). As a general guideline, viewings can be organized 2 days a week, 3 hours a day or 3 days a week, 2 hours a day.
• When the resident presents a medical certificate stating the diagnosis of corona, no viewings can be organized.

Visits are only allowed, during the current transition phase, on the basis of the instructions of the National Security Council if they are organized by professional landlords and real estate agents. Viewings organized by private owners are not yet possible, because they can be seen as non-essential travel, which are prohibited. update 18/5: as of today, all movements in the context of the sale or rental of real estate are allowed. This means that from today viewings, organized by private individuals, are allowed, of course with the necessary security measures.

It is currently unpredictable how long the measures against COVID-19 will last and whether they will also affect your (future) student life. Would you like a little more security? Then you can decide to wait a little longer before signing your contract. The corona measures are not seen as force majeure to break the contract.
